Abstract: There are three basic types of energy dissipation for high dam discharge, flip trajectory bucket, hydraulic jump, and bucket flow, which usually need to be verified and optimized via physical model tests. To investigate the hydraulic characteristics of these structures, such as water flow regime, pressure, and near-bottom velocity, this paper presents three-dimensional numerical simulations of the flows over all the three structures using a turbulent model and the VOF technique, providing information for preliminary engineering design.
